ur-q strut housings in a 4kstq?

Ken,
There are only two fitiment issues.
1) Tie Rod. BUT...all you need is Tie Rod ends for a VW
Rabbit/Golf. They will screw right on to the 4kq rods and are
the right size for the ur-q and 5kt struts.

2) Drive Shaft. You will need either ur-q fronts or 4kq rears.
They are the same, 4kq rears are Obviously cheaper though.
However, that said. Newer 4kq's (85 - 87) AND late 84's. Have
the same size inner CV. Ur-q's and early 4kq's have the larger
inner CV's that are shared with the 5ktq front. And you can
pull the tranny flange from a 5ktq or 5kt. What I have yet to
find out is.........
............ will the inner CV's from a 5ktq fit on the rear
axles from a 4kq. IE...if you have the smaller rear inner CV's
can you just put the larger ones on. The axle splines are the
same I believe.
Anyhow, point is, you have a couple options here.

3) Yea, one more thing. almost forgot. Ball Joints. You'll
need 85' ur-q slotted Ball Joints. Or 90q ball joints but
you'll have to drill out the diameter of the strut. (I would do
this on 5kt struts which work well as well, but wouldnt on a
ur-q just because of rarity)

Rears are easy, just 5ktq hubs pressed in back there.
BUT...if your interested in details on my 90q rear strut
conversion. (2-pieces are easier to work on and MUCH ligher)
Like 5 lbs a side if memory serves) Maybe more, I'd have to
check my notes.) But if you want info on this write me. Its a
PITA but maybe worth it to some. Rear Brakes are the real issue
here. Hard to do right but easy to put 4kq fronts in back if
you dont mind losing the E-Brake.
  Best of luck.

    Todd
