For the reference of any other frustrated Hot Starters out there.......
89 200q, 118k miles, @ 100k full tune-up, new injectors/seals, all systems
checked ok as per Scott Mockry's ABC's of running high boost..
Car always started cold, but after being fully warmed up, and let sit for
approx 10 minutes, it would not start, only turn over, plenty of spark, no
codes. 45 minutes to an hour after this, it would restart, running rough
for 10 seconds or so, then cleared right up. Leaving the car running as
you run into to stores to do errands gets old after a while.... I replaced
what I thought could be the problem, a toasted thermo switch for the
injector cooling fan. Seemed to help for 2 days, then again back to no
start when warmed....A fuel pressure guage was attached, fuel pressure
dropped immediatley after shutdown, fuel pump check valve seemed to be the
culprit. As I was selling the car in the following week, the buyer agreed
to pay for a new fuel pump since the tank would be opened. No symptons
whatsoever after replacement. Fixed. A couple listers reccomeneded this
fix at the onset of the symptoms, thanks for the help, you were all dead
on......Moral of the story, when having perceived fuel problems, get out
the pressure guage!
