Idle curiosity.....cq into S2?

The definitive source on this conversion would be Brandon Hull's site. He
did it with a 3B, and was kind enough to put together an excellent site
documenting his conversion, including parts numbers, etc. The early S2's
used the 3b, the later ones used the AAN. As far as the drivetrain goes its
up to you. Thus far Brandon has retained the 5spd gearbox of the coupe, and
originally had the 4 bolt hubs, etc. I think he either upgraded or is in
the process of the 5 bolt conversion. 3B is definitely more economical, but
then again, the AAN just has more potential. The block, etc. are the same
as the RS2 which I beleive was engine code ABY. This leaves the door open
for RS2 Turbo, intercooler, EM, etc. Plus the AAN is motronic. Downside is
higher initial cost, parts scarcity, and parts prices....ex. I think just
the cylinder head for a AAN is around 3500. As far as sheet metal goes its
basically a bolt on affair. Hope this helps, and please feel free to
correct any errors I may have made.
