I thought I would share an interesting conversation, and I use the word
conversation loosely, that I overheard at the local Audi dealer, Phil
Long European Imports in Colorado Springs, Co.
The service manager and one of his underlings were having a shouting
match over what to do about a customers new A6 4.2 that had been in
their shop for a week because of a faulty instrument panel at 8,600
miles. Apparently the owner had just called them to pick up his car but
they hadn't lifted a finger on it yet. The service manager told his
underling; "Just tell him we just finished diagnosing the problem and
found that It had faulty sending units. But because it is a 4.2, they
are very special and we will have to order them from Germany. Tell him
his car won't be ready till next week. That way, we will have enough
time to diagnose the real problem." So, the underling says, "I can't
just lie to the guy, you guys always make me do that, and I am sick of
it." Service manager: "You have to lie to him, you have to create
yourself a way out." Underling: "Ok fine, I'll do it" Me: " Boy am I
glad I don't ever take my car to you guys to fix."
They just laughed.
Pretty sad, if you ask me. All of this was said at a yell in the
lobby of the Mercedes Benz/Audi service department.
This is why I do all of my own work.
