A week or two I requested help diagnosing an 84 4kq with injection troubles.
Thanks all who suggested ideas to what might be wrong and those who didn't
too.

Symptoms were that it suddenly acted like it was running very lean.
I checked fuel pressure as I thought that the fuel pump didn't sound quite
right. Tests OK.
I had looked for vacuume leaks although it would almost run at idle which
indicates to me the leak wouldn't be too big and it wouldn't run at higher
rpm's where it would take a huge leak to keep it from running.
I checked the amperage through the DPR. I compared this to a known good
vehicle and got similiar results.
I considered this to be a indicator that the problem was not in the
electronics.
That seemed only to leave the FI components that live on top of the airbox.
As I needed to replace the airbox (found very old damage while looking for
an air leak)
I decided to replace the entire assembly, disconnected the two main fuel
lines and the two electrical lines along with the injector lines and
replaced everything with an assembly that I picked up at the local "Pull &
Save" for $15.00, Yes that is right fuel distributor, air box and airflow
sensor etc. for $15.00
Apx. 45 minutes later (I was in no hurry) I cranked it over and it ran great
again.
I suspect that the problem was in the fuel distributor, but since everything
was replaced at once I am not sure.
The car will get a new fuel filter and will see a CO machine to properly
adjust the mixture.

Just letting you all know what was found.
