Yes, they have diagnostic capabilities, even my 73 Squareback has this. But they
dont have a "Check Engine" light, and AFAIK no OBD system.

I'm not sure. I have to read a bit in my German Audi 100/A6 book (they had
virtually same engine, but not with code NG)
