Type 44 Air Conditioning Evaporator Replacement

Assuming you have the box out of the car, there's a seam where the two
halves are joined that's covered by a gooey-looking black tape. There are
metal clips on flat spots molded into the seam. No BTDT on my part
regarding the clips, but they look as though you could pop them off with a
screwdriver. Audi probably has a special $42 tool for this purpose.

If you haven't removed the box, you need to expose the four screws that
hold it to the firewall sheetmetal from inside the cabin. If you look at
the recirculation flap opening from below the glovebox (I find it easier to
remove the glovebox because I'm too stubby to reach past it), the screws
are outside the four corners of that opening. You may need to push aside
some glued-on insulation to expose the heads of the screws.
