Auto Check Solved

Well, I found the auto-check problem in my 1990 200 what Pogo would call "the
scientifiwockle way".

Short re-cap of problem: I got the front brake pad warning even after I had
jumpered the brake pad wires so it shouldn't be sending a warning. The alarm
didn't show when stationary, but always showed it if the car was moving.

Solution: after carefully viewing the circuit in the Bentley, I determined
that there is essentially one wire running through the pads, and that they're
wired in series to ground. Any break in the circuit makes the auto-check
warning come on.

I then used an ohmeter to check the continuity (at the LF corner) of the lead
coming from the chassis and going to ground after passing through the RF
corner. I suspected a break in one of the wires in the harness leading to the
plug which connects to the brake pads. I soon found a wire break in the LF
harness - and by moving the wires, located it about 5" back from the LF pad.
I cut the bad section out, saved the connector to the pads, soldered in new
wire and put heat-shrink over the soldered connections. Auto-check system
now is silent and happy.

500 mile round trip starts tomorrow....followed by 2200 mile round trip
beginning next week. Good timing!
