My 300ZX goes through front and rear pads at approximately the same mileage 
interval, so they must be doing something (it also has a 51/49 weight balance.)

We tried to remove the front brakes on a dune buggy we had at one point in 
time, you could barely stop the thing with just the rears, and it weighted 
around 1000 lbs and we weren't driving very fast.  We quickly reattached 
the fronts (it was my stepfather's idea not mine to remove them!)
