Ditto. I was only just starting to wonder when your
report would come out.

You forgot to describe mine as "decidedly NOT
concours!" This old gray nag just ain't what she used to
be. :^) It will be much better by next year, I hope.

Scott's kind enough not to mention how many
repetitions through that sequence I got REALLY wrong.
Of the dozens of times around, I can only remember 2
or 3 that felt right, but when it's right, you know it. What
a blast!

My ride in that unparalleled beast was nothing short of
surreal. Sitting in a type 44 gives you certain
expectations, but everything was wrong... the sound,
the torque, the braking... I was positively giddy the
first few times around, then I realized that Bob was
driving the entire track in 4th gear! Can you imagine
having the luxury of enough torque to pull out of the
keyhole and blast down the back straight into triple
digits without having to shift? Bob, I'm sure you and
Scott went thought a bunch of aspirin to finally get
that thing dialed in mechanically, not to mention
fending off the occasional quip from the naysayers,
but this resident of the peanut gallery has nothing but
kudos and ovations for the result. Thanks for the ride!

Yup. I was just trying to reproduce even a fraction of
the feeling of riding with you through 2-3 in the '83. I
think more than anything else it was that sequence last
year that gave me the final confidence to push the
"buy" button on the urq.

I knew that would make it into the report. Keep in mind
that I was only hitting the overboot limit on the first day.
Tom Saltino (S4/6+ guy) and I arrived for the event on
Thursday morning at 5:30am. Several earlybirds were
headed to the track as we checked in to the hotel.
We received greetings of "good morning" and lobbed
back a grumbled "good night" reply.

A mere 45min of shuteye presents some special
challenges at the track--not recommended. Overboot
was not the only lapse of concentration I experienced,
but luckily I stayed well within my limits. We missed the
banquet on Thursday night, but we got 12 hours of
slumber. You know you're really tired when you fall
asleep with your thumb on the TV remote, eh Tom?

Agreed. Craig's a pleasure to hang out with, and runs
great events. His ever-present smile belies all the work
that goes in to putting something like this together.

Obviously I was struggling just to retain information on
the first day, but I feel like I've got a good start into
taming the urq. I'm still getting used to the turbo lag
and the horsepower kick (worlds different from the
NA20V), and I won't even bring up the Gen I vs II
subject. LFB seems very natural to me now. Thanks
for the education, Scott, and for the glimpse of the
car's potential with the ride in your '83. Your patience
and composure in the face of ugliness is much
appreciated.

Oh, if anyone's interested, here's a shot of me
sawing on the wheel while Scott reaches for the
doorhandle...
