Strange test drive

I went from a '87 5kcstq with with the IA chip to a stock 20v Avant.
The 5kcstq was marginally faster than the stock Avant. Then I installed
the Stage 3 IA chip in the Avant and there was no comparison.

IA makes a Stage 1, 2, and 3 that don't require any hardware changes.

Was the Stage 2 of IA persuasion or other?
