front suspension: need some help

Jumping in a little late here, but....

I was able to change the shocks, springs and bearings on the bro's '87 5ktq 
w/o removing the lower portion of the strut. I too had the el-cheapo style 
spring compressors, they barely did the job. Had to wrestle the spring out 
(after taking the shock out first, and removing the tie rod ball joint from 
the spindle arm) ifI recall, the lowering springs went in much easier.

While your in there that far might as well get new springs, shox, bumpstops, 
oh and some new dust boots as well.....

As far as dorking up the alignment goes I just spray painted around the top 
camber plates before pulling them off to remove the shock cartridges. This 
way when you re-assemble it all it's much easier to get things back close to 
where they were.
