IM bolt removal - 83 5kt non-quattro

Dennis - I had started out with the regular full size "L" shaped allen key,
then I went and purchased the allen shank on a 3/8" drive mount. I can get
the 3/8" ratchet and key in to the bolt, with the handle of the rachet
horizontal and to the rear, in between the turbo exhaust and the engine
exhaust pipes. I even thought I had it in all the way, but since I did not
get the key in exactly in line with the bolt shaft centerline, I rounded
out the inside of the bolt hex slightly. This is the third bolt forwarded
from the rear. I think I understand how you are using the box wrench as a
"handle" to turn the shortened "L" key. I will also attempt this. Thanks.

There is indeed one bolt that the downpipe does interfere with.
My solution was to cut a 6 mm allen key to equal lenghth on both arms, to
form a small "L." This would then engage the offending bolt in a good solid

fashion.
I then took a "box end" wrench and slipped one end over the allen "L", this

left the other end as my point of rotational force using any sort of bar
that
would fit the opening in the box end wrench. I was able to use a long bar
and
exert a great deal of torque on the bolt. Which it needed!
This has worked on 3 cars so far.
