I did this and it was a mistake because I had to buy new elbow pipe with hose at dealer. When you cut the fitting then end of pipe becomes not straight and you can not clamp the hose reliably.  Yes, it will leak  just a little  but it helps to corrode around.  Second time (on another car) I discovered that I shoul just strip the old clamp and there is a barbed end under the clamp.  Put a piecce of hose on the barb, clamp it and no need to pay $30 to dealer or do  welding job.
