I need some help diagnosing a continuing problem I am having wiht an 87 5kcstq. It stalls every time you let off the throttle. If I blip the throttle I can sometimes get it to hold a rough idle around 800 rpm. When it stalls it will not restart right away. I must wait 20-30 seconds to try to restart. This is a lot of fun in the middle of a busy intersection.
What I have done so far:
new plugs (correct Bosch), wires, cap, and rotor and distributor (the bearing and wires were shot), new "Michelin Man" hose, crankcase breather hose from block, T hose at top of valve cover, hose from T to air boot, valve cover gasket, oil filler cap gasket (old one was completely missing,
I pulled the codes and just got a 4444. I ran the output tests and most seemed fine except the carbon canister check but I am not sure what I am looking for on this test and it may be fine.
I know the wastegate diaphram is shot (won't pull ANY vaccuum at all) would this cause a large enough vaccuum leak to cause my problems?
Does anyone have any ideas? I am about to take this to a mechanic even though I hate to admit that I can't solve the problem. My wife is about to kill me. It is her car but the stalling is so bad she cannot drive it. My feet are big enough to have one on the brake and blip the throttle while stopping but she cannot do this.
If I do end up going to a machanic can any one recomend one is the Nashua, NH area? I would like to find a good one that is willing to do diagnosis and let me fix the problem. Cash is very tight for us right now.
Thanks
Harley
