Type 89s are identical in price, and the boot itself is equally weak
(though the frames seem to hold up OK). And as long as all my scrapyard
hunts turn up only type 89s with removed or dead shifter boots, mine
remains as is, torn to shreds.
Seems to me that someone could make a nice little earner from replicating
the boots and making new ones, looks like all you need is a decent
industrial sewing machine, some leather (or the same fake stuff Audi uses)
and stitching skills. Since I lack all of the above, maybe someone else
wants to try? IMO there are quite a few q-listers who'd be in the market
for one.
