Christ, get the A2.  The A3's are not reliable, from what I've seen, and 
suffer from VERY poor quality.  My friend's 97 jetta had the sunroof, wipers, 
door trim, seats (both), shift linkage, wipers (again), sunroof (again) 
headlights and HVAC controls break.  In the first year of ownership.  It was 
a new car.  I've heard and seen similar stories.
