Ok,

I had the problem with the trannyin the 89 90q, which has been fixed by a
competent, trustworthy shop in northern chicago. Got used 61k mi
transmission for $650, and new clutch. Drives beautifully again.

NOW, here's my problem. My car sat in the back lot of Aamco from
thursday evening to monday afternoon 5-9 July. When I left it on 5 july I
made sure to lock the car, and trunk. On Saturday, after getting their
unreasonable estimate, I went down there to grab some stuff out of my car,
only to find my car there UNLOCKED. The clutch box that was on the
passenger seat had been opened, and upon first glance that was all that
looked wrong. I left a note on the drivers seat telling them NOT to work
on my car, and NOT to ever leave my car unlocked. Well, monday comes
around, I tell them that I'm having my car towed (flatbed of course)
somewhere else. They tell me they've already looked at my car, and after
me not backing down, they tell me that it'll be fine if I take the car.

My shop fixed the car, where it was stored inside for the duration of its
stay. I picked the car up last friday and drove it home.

Cleaning out the car friday night and opened the trunk. My MB Quart
DSD 216's new in box are gone, as well as my metric tool set and a cheapie
car emergency tool set. Total, probably about $450 or so stolen. My
stereo and everything inside the car were fine.

SO, what responsibility does aamco have for my stuff being taken, it was
done on their lot, and they left my car unlocked? What is the best plan
of action for getting my stuff replaced? I plan on talking to the manager
today, and have a list of questions, but just wondering the best way to go
about being assertive and not angry.

Sorry for WOB, just venting, and hoping for some tips,

Nathan Engelbert
