Carter,
You find me an E46 M3 or a Boxster S for $41k and it will be one very poor
example of the model, if it can even be found, short of a theft recovery.
There's no way you'll find a 996 for $41k either.
You can't buy a 6-speed 840Ci in the States, so that's a moot point as well.
Also, no way you're finding an E55 for $41k.
Where are you getting these prices? They're totally unrealistic.
Out of the cars you list that are at the cost of a new S4 or less, the
928, 951, E34 M5, the M6 are certainly capable of doing so at autobahn
speeds. I don't know if the Z3 M roadster or coupe are that capable, as
the 315hp version cannot be found for $41k.
There is no such thing as a C34 AMG- C43, C36 and C32. C32 is too expensive,
the C43 yes and maybe the C36, haven't driven any of these, so I can't tell
firsthand. C36s and C43s can definitely move.
Have you driven or run with an S4 at highway speeds? They are very, very
fast.
I've run with a couple and the one time this guy was doing 60-100 blasts on
a regular basis, that car made it to 100 very quickly.
Finally, don't compare apples to oranges with the track stuff thrown in your
post- given the right driver, I'll lay money down that you'll have to eat
your
words.
I don't consider the S4 to be some godlike car, either. But it's still an
awfully
high-performance car in a very nice package. And for a new car, you're not
getting
much nicer than that for the money. Used cars, that's a whole different
story- you
can get a Regal T-type for the drags, a 951 for the track and an E32 750iL
for highway
for the cost of a new S4 and match it or beat it in each application.
