200 Avant V8

As some may recall, I am selling my 89 200 V8. It has been (and remains to
be) a wonderful car, and is in rather terrific condition overall. My SO
will need a car soon, and she has zero interest in cars aside from their
being transportation, and less interest in learning how to drive a stick
shift...she is REALLY an automatic transmission person, so the 200 must go.
But I don't REALLY want to sell it, and so far at auction I have maintained
a (what I felt) was a reasonable reserve, and it hasn't sold. With the V8
and the GMC truck in the yard, we hardly need the wagon, anyway, but I
really don't want the V8 used for just short haul purposes, and the truck is
a 454 V8, and likes gas quite a lot.....so, the perfect around town vehicle
is what we need, and one with an automatic.
But I don't want to just sell the 200...much too nice to just give away.
So, it has occurred to me that it just might not sell, and then, what do I
do? Well, I have had a brainstorm that was related to an old desire that I
had while I had the first Avant...a 5000 CS Quattro....
The ONLY thing that is wrong with either the 5000 CS OR the 200 Avant, is
that they tend to be a bit doggie off the line; a tad down on power. My
"what if" has always been that the car would be MUCH nicer if it had...oh,
say, the 3.6 litre V8 with its added grunt and 240 horses.
The recent thread about making that swap has really gotten me excited. My
wrench says that ANYTHING is possible, and I know that my 200 wagon is a
PERFECT candidate for such a swap. The transmission was rebuilt with new
clutch last May, so it is ready.
So, if it doesn't sell this season, I just might keep it, and start saving
my pennies...now, just roll the fender edges a bit so S4 wheels and slightly
bigger tires will fit...and we'll take the suspension and.......
Quick: I think I'll lie down until this fever passes!
