Have you actually done this? And lived to tell about it?

The one time I applied wax to a windshield, on a friend's suggestion (a
goof, actually), the visibility was *dangerously* reduced in the rain, and
even more so at night in the wet. The water smeared across the windshield,
and I couldn't see at all. I removed it immediately with heavy-duty glass
cleaner.

Only thing to use on glass is RainX. May not make the glass pretty, but it
sure helps with visibility in the wet. And since I'm driving my car rather
than showing it, that's what's important to me.
