Oh dear,
My 87 coupe (a 'garage queen' is how the list would describe it) is
sulking from the attention thats recently been given to the 100 Avant and is
running a bit hot and throwing out little puffs of steam from the top of the
radiator, Its a Valeo one and probably original. Fan trips in and out OK.
In addition the idle has been getting a bit lumpy and a compression
check seems to be showing a low reading for No 5. cylinder. I havent done a
wet/dry test but my gut instinct says suspect the gasket first and valves
second.
So it looks like a new thermostat and radiator are definitely required
(Water pump was replaced 1 year ago), and maybe I'm going to be
taking the head off , but only after some more tests and maybe a second
opinion.
On the other hand perhaps I should consider the true cost of the 700
miles I do a year in it and take the thing off the road!
Questions are; (Euro spec Coupe GT 1987, Kv 2226cc, CIS , no emission
control gear, no EGR)
1, I know this is a common question so apologies, but is it easier to
leave IM and EM on when removing the head, bearing in mind that I may only
be doing a gasket replacement?
2, What kind of splined socket do I need for the head bolts. Best place
to get one in the UK.?
3, Are head bolts re-usable?
4, Any recommendations for best brand of drives for IM allen bolt
removal.
5, Any recommendations for replacement radiator. Euro Car parts , and
German and Swedish I already know about. Any really good US replacements
available in the UK?
All comments gratefully recieved!
Cheers,
rob
