alternator belt failures

What kind of belt are you using?  You should use only the proper metric-sized
belts (usually made by Continental).  The pulley angle doesn't work well
with US-spec belts.  Also, make sure your alternator mount bushings aren't
worn to the point where the belt pulleys aren't aligned well any more.
