alternator belt failures

I have owned my 200Q since last September, and have had problems with 
alternator belt breakage.  The belts had been replaced recently by 
the previous owner, het a couple of months later, the alternator belt 
started squealing, so I replaced it.  Early this spring, it started 
getting noisy again, and before I got around to replacing it, it came 
off. When installing the replacement, I also replaced the tensioner 
wheel.  Now, one would think that I would learn from this, and 
replace it as soom as it started protesting whenever the cooling fan 
or other load came on. But, no, I did it again tonight.  Luckily, I 
was only a couple of miles from home, so I was able to drive home on 
the battery.  Is this kind of lifespan normal for this car, or is 
there something else going on that I don't see?  Maybe I'll start 
carrying a spare in the trunk.
