Hi List,
My '88 5kcstq has been sitting for a few weeks with stripped spark
plug threads in the number 5 cylinder. I have now received my
Timesert spark plug thread repair kit. I got some grease and
cutting oil, as well as a tap wrench. I've run into an obstacle that
I'd like help with.
The location of the spark plug hole doesn't allow me to put the tap
wrench on the tap and turn it. It would seem that I need an
extension, like for a ratchet, that would allow me to put the wrench
much higher to clear the surrounding area.
I can unscrew one of the handles of the tap wrench, but even the
part of the wrench that holds onto the tap is big enough to be in the
way. I suppose it's possible to use a small crescent wrench or
something similar from just the outside. It would still be tight, and
I'm concerned about alignment.
Has anyone encountered this problem? I may be overlooking
something. If anyone has any pointers, I'd appreciate hearing them.
Thanks,
Ken
