AutoX driver ed

Spent the moring at an autocross driver's ed program.

I can say only two things.

First, wow. I never knew my car could do that!

Second, it's not about the cones.

Seriously...I was amazed at what my car could do in the hands of an
experienced autocross driver. With the help of the two instructors, I got a
*lot* smoother and faster through the course. I also learned not to look at
the cones I was trying to avoid, but to pick a spot far ahead, or elsewhere,
and stay focused on that. Interestingly, my car drove *very* differently
using this technique...it drifted through corners where before it pushed.

I, like everybody else, left a *much* larger gap in slaloms and elsewhere
between the car and the cones...feet rather than inches. It was quite
interesting to take the slalom flat out without lifting...first time I did
it, I took *way* too much speed into the next segment, with the expected
consequences!

I also learned how to steer. I had been letting the car come back to center
on its own after a big turn...I found a *lot* more power if I brought the
wheel back directly.

Had a *lot* of fun, even with the flat on the way home.
