4KCSQ wasser temp !

Lister's, 
My 87 has developed a problem. The dash water temp
indicater has started flashing?
The Fan motor is still operating normaly, IE:
intermitantly comming on only when the motor is good
and warm.
The temp gauge climbs to half scale an parks.
It has adaquate water/qlycol coolant.
I plulled the sensor from the bottem of the res.
bottle
and, yup the flashing stops, is it the sensor in the
tank?
