90a =>110a alternator conversion hiccups

I ran into one or two problems while trying to install a 110a
alternator, converted to 150a, into my '88 5kcstq.
One, I couldn't get the heat shield/air duct to go on the back. The
threads on the back don't stick out far enough to get both the
shield and nuts on. I assume this is not something I should leave
out, here in sunny AZ especially. Maybe the rebuilder used shorter
assembly screws, or there's a different, thinner, heat sheild/duct?
The other problem, even bigger, is that the pulley on the alternator
seems to be too far forward in the car, relative to the crank pulley.
I'm thinking I should be using a different pulley.
I already have the bracket, and that installed without a hitch,
relatively speaking.
Has anyone else done this conversion that could offer me any info?
Also, I printed a post I got from the q-list, titled something like "90a
=> 110a conversion", which detailed the procedure and differences.
I tried to search for this article again, but couldn't find it this time.
If anyone has success finding it, please point me in the right
direction.
It's now time for a smog and registration renewal, so I gotta get this
thing rolling again soon.
Thanks,
Ken
