Turbo Project

Well I went and bought some 15W-40 oil to replace the 10W-30. I didn't
want to go to thick, so 15W-40 seemed reasonable. I will switch back to my
stock oil filter on Monday when I can get one.

I went for a long drive today, twisty roads, highway, basically the
whole routine. Car is running well, but the air/fuel and low oil pressure
at idle still haunt me. I richened the mixture a bit, so it hovers around
0mA, goes down to about -4mA and back up to 2mA, just a little rich. I
retarded the timing a bit and hoped the idle would raise a bit, but it
won't. I think the idle is lower than normal because of all that intake
plumbing and the turbo. Maybe the ISV should feed from before the turbo,
mine feeds from right before the throttle body as a stock GTi would.

I can obtain plenty of boost, all the way to 7.5psi if I build it slowly
and do not hit WOT. It's odd, but even with a light foot this car is much
faster than stock. If I try to get on the gas quickly the gauge reads lean
and stays there, though I don't hear any pinging, the car just doesn't feel
like it's going anywhere, my bet is that is the ECU backing off the ignition
timing in that situation, but I have not seen max retard yet (indicated by
the ECS light). If I bring my foot to just before WOT and feather a bit the
OXS system picks up the mixture, starts out lean and then jumps to rich and
then levels at stoich at full boost. I can smell gas right after I hit max
boost, like the engine is really guzzling gas thanks to the OXS or I have a
leak, but I can't smell anything at idle.

I am thinking of disabling the WOT switch and seeing what happens. In
5th gear I can bring it to almost WOT and from 60mph to 90mph is lightning
quick comparatively, I just had to try that one once. I had a new Lexus LS
sedan tailgating me and I zoomed him alright:) This car feels fast in that
situation alright, 0-60 I can't test yet, it just doesn't work like that
yet. I also ain't hammering it yet because of all the new bits and such.

Time to work out those last few kinks, two coolant leaks, WOT situation,
fueling, and such. I have turned boost down to .40bar (~6psi). I may go
lower for the time being until I figure out the fueling issues. I think I
may need to do a pressure test and flow through test, very buzzy pump and
two of my injectors leak after shutdown. It will obviously take some time
to get all the kinks solved, but hopefully it won't take too long.

Many thanks to Javad, Huw, Paul Cole, George at ATP, Fred Smith, and
anyone else who I have forgotten!

Thanks to all who helped!
