I unbolted the tie rods completely and unbolted the assembly from the power
steering rack. With the halfshaft and downpipe previously removed it was
quite easy (I could get a impact gun in there.)
Once the tie rod ends were removed the tranny slid right out.
Now I'm sure you all are wondering what was keeping the clutch from working
in my CGT.
Well one of the two springs that retains the release bearing to the release
arm broke, and the release bearing spun to a point where it wouldn't
disengage the clutch. It was spinning a little, though, as the release
bearing collar (a plastic piece) is covered in grease that has been
overheated, and the collar is cracked near the base. There is also a broken
round metal spring washer, I think it might have been part of the release
bearing. At least it's not the entire shaft broken as previously suspected.
Anyone know where to get one of these release bearing collars (it's held in
place by three bolts,) and the spring clip, too.
