Clutch work involves????

Grrr...sigh...sulk.

Driving home today I started to experience some strange symptoms. In 3rd, 4th
and 5th gear if I drop my foot on the gas the rev's rise, but the speed does
not (much). Grrr...somethings wrong. I suspected the clutch.

Well, I called Mark Mittler of Mittler motors (I traded some 'stuff' for future
free advice). Mark is a phenominal mechanic (Newmarket Ontario, Canada) and
_really_ knows his Audi's and VW's.

Mittler wasn't in, but the other Mark was. Diagnosis (over the phone):
clutch. Sigh...Ten hours Labour, $240 for clutch kit w/release bearing.

I know I can't do this job myself...I might be able to, but no time.
So my question is this: What does doing the clutch involve? There are a few
things in the front end/tranny area that I've been 'thinking' of. If they need
to drop the whole subframe etc. then I might add to the list and save on labour
costs.
