bad fuel pumps...

This talk of bad fuel pumps and the fact that mine cut out momentarily last
night has reminded me that I've been meaning to ask the list about this.
The car in question is a 90' 90 10v no quattro. When I bought ~ 2 years ago
I brought it home and put a new fuel pump in it that day (Knew it needed a
fuel pump, made for a good deal) Anyway 2 years and 30k miles later the
fuel pump noise is back! Someone told me when I was shopping for the 90
that audis use up fuel pumps and I figure it is a small price to pay.
(could put in a new pump every month and not equal the cost of a payment on
a new car...)
Seems to me thought there is an underlying problem, a fuel pump should last
longer than 30k miles.
The noise sounds just like the noise my 87 5ks makes when there is less than
a 1/4 tank and I brake hard... sounds like the pump is not getting enough
fuel on the inlet side... I solve this in the 5k by filling up when I get
to 1/2 tank. Doesn't matter how much fuel is in the tank of the 90 though
the noise comes and goes with no apparent pattern...
Any ideas? While I find the receipt for the last pump to see if it had
warranty?
