boost problem

Oliver, Richard:
I forgot to mention... the multi-temp sensor was also replaced. As you said, the coolant temp gauge was not working and replacing the switch took care of that problem. We even tried switching computers between two cars (my mechanic works on Audis and has several in his bone-yard) -- my car had a MAC 11B and the computer we tried was a MAC 11C -- no impact whatever. I will check the waste gate hoses. Could it be the waste gate itself ? My car has 163k miles on it but is in top shape except for the performance of the engine. It is so bad that it is clearly the worst in the stable when it comes to beign sluggish. Thanks.

here is the story,
1.1 bar, replaced the mm hose
1.2 bar, then discovered a leak in the upper & lower wastegate hose, replaced it then
1.0 bar,
there is a writeup in sjm's site on trouble shooting the wire connection, usually just removing and re-installing the thing solves the problem.
your on the right track, I just disconnected the muti func temp switch pin & clean it with an electronic parts cleaner and re-installed it, now am getting 1.4 bar,
sometimes the temp gauge fails to work, I just re-insert the pin connection.
the temp sensor is located near the radiator hose, it is covered with a rubber cap, 4 wire pin. mine is installed upside down.
does your temp gauge work?,
with regards to the wastegate diap, you can test the diap with a vacuum, sjm also have some write-ups although I did not go that far.
I will be installing an autometer boost gate which I got from eBay and a pair of Infinity tweeters I love working on this car.
gud luck on your repairs.

Oliver: Did you ever get this problem resolved. I am having a similar problem with my 5kcsq ... I have a new MM hose, a new breather hose, replaced all injector seals and injectors and after all of this the best I am able to get in boost is 1 bar except when I floor the accelerator and the engine takes a long time to get to 1.3 bar. The car is very sluggish, and all the work seems to have made no difference at all in terms of performance. All I am looking for is to get to stock performance.
I also have a 90 200 TQW which does not handle as well as the 87 5kcsq sedan but has a significantly more responsive engine.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

after discovering that the lower wastegate hose is limp and leaking, I replaced it .
was experiencing 1.2 bar boost with the leaking hose, when I replaced the hose just 1.0 bar.
already replaced the michelin man hose, throttle switch, upper wastegate solenoid hose, correct plugs, new wires,
the temp gauge doesnt get high though I was thinking the multi temp sensor needs replacing, I just replace all the possible parts that needs replacing.
any suggestions?, next step is the temp sensor, where can i find this? then the wastegate diap'
