You don't need to touch the axle nut or bolt, Mike.  Besides undoing the 
bolts that hold the caliper to its carrier, you'll also have to take out 
the bolts that hold the carrier in place.   Your wheel bolts are what hold 
the rotors.  That's why your tool kit is supposed to include a headless 
plastic bolt slotted for a screwdriver so you can put that in place of the 
first wheel bolt you remove when changing tires, etc.  Be sure to clean and 
relube the pins behind the bolts that hold the caliper and check the rubber 
boots there to make sure they're sound.  I've read you can use (I think) 
blue locktite on the caliper bolts.  The replacement bolts I got already 
had blue glue on their threads.
