weird ABS problem 87 5kq

Hello folks
I've had a strange problem with ABS since I removed the LF strut to
replace the broken spring. I didn't mess with the brake hydraulics at
the time. Just did the necessary to get the strut out, removed axle
nut, dropped ball joint, etc. I disconnected the sensor connection
inside the engine bay and did not mess with sensor position. I cleaned
up the reluctor (very coroded) as best possible on the CVJ. Ohms are
within spec at sensor and control unit terminal plug, wires have
continuity. Pressure bled the LF brake caliper. With ABS on the LF
brake will not function! Car pulls hard to right and ABS is
functioning on that side only (ie. grab/release when wheel ceases to
turn) With ABS off brakes are fine. I have a feeling this is just a
coincidence and has nothing to do with the strut removal. I'm leaning
toward control unit or modulator, most likely the latter. What has me
baffled is no pressure applied to LF brake with ABS on. Doesn't make
sense to me. Could a valve in the modulator be stuck open? The only
time the modulator pump activates is when the RF wheel locks up. If
there were some grit between LF sensor and reluctor this would cause
the modulator pump to activate, right?
If any one can help I would appreciate it. I'll keep plugging away
at it in the meantime. Needless to say, ABS is now off permanently
until I get this sorted.
  Thanks for reading.

Geo
