As noted in the subject, yours truly has to remove,
repair and replace driveshafts on a 1993 C4 100 with
FWD and a/t.
I have done this work many times on a 1986 $$ 5kT, and
note a few differences whilst prowling the Bentleys:
1) 1993 manual does not mention the need to "pop" the
ball joint from the strut assembly (using 5' iron
pipe) to gain adequate clearance for removal. Have
done this many times on the $$.
To the BTDT in the gallery-do you need to "pop" the
strut off the ball joint in the '93?
2) When removing the outer CV from the hub, the '86
has the 34 MM nut, and one uses the iron pipe to get
adequate torque (a/k/a oomph) to get said nut off CV.
'93 has m16 bolt instead...same rules apply?
3) Once shaft is out of car, on the '86 $$ the outer
shaft is a royal PITA to remove, especially due to
"hidden" circlip that one tries to pull open as one is
_simultaneously_ trying to hammer off the joint off
the shaft.
'93 C4 photos in Bentley show the use of a very long
M16 driven into outer CV to drive it off shaft. No
circlip tool is used (as far as I can tell).
Not wanting to buy seldom used and very expensive tool
that gets sproadic use, could I just find a very long
M16 bolt that would do the same thing?
your comments and input are welcome.
