Vapor Lock?

This month I've had gradually worsening trouble with hot starts. When the
engine is hot, it won't fire without starter fluid. Lately, even with
starter fluid, I get ether ignition, but then it dies. About 45 minutes
with the hood up and it starts instantly. It's acting like vapor lock. I
think my after-run blower is intermittent, but I've heard a lot of them
don't work and don't cause this. My local mechanic thinks it might be the
check valve on the fuel pump, which I replaced about 30k ago. Injectors
have 100k on them. I've had no problems idling hot, just when I shut it off
for a few minutes. Is it possible the fuel in the line is boiling because
the pressure drops? Can I check this by jumpering the fuel pump before
starting hot? My mechanic suggests pinching the fuel hose at the pump
closed at shutdown, then trying a hot start after a few minutes to see if
it’s the check valve. Any thoughts/suggestions? This car runs almost
exclusively on the expressways, so I can actually live with this for a
while.
Thanks,
