I've heard monkey-lads say thay're "not allowed" to do it, but many of
them think the rule is stupid.

I use it on all my cars as well, have for years, and have yet to
experience a nut backing off.  Al my mechanic books say that w/o
anti-seize you can't ever be sure that a bolt is torqued properly.
