Ken............the helicoil kit you get for the spark plugs should have the
correct thread tap in the kit for spark plugs and of course the actual
helicoil will have the correct thread to put the plug back in the head. In
otherwords the new thread you will make in your head is to fit the helicoil,
not the plug. Most kits I have seen will have an assortment of helicoils,
the difference being the
length..........3/8..........1/2..........3/4...........some kits I have
seen will have all the same length. It all depends on how wide a range of
cars you intend to do as to which kit you need. Make sure the kit you get
has correct length helicoil for your Audi.
When running the tap down in the plug hole I like to put a small amount of
grease on the tap, helps trap some of the aluminum shavings from going down
inside. when you have finished the hole clean out any excess grease you can
see
I have done hundreds of helicoils on air-cooled VW's.......a few on
Toyota's..........none on Audi (mostly because I don't work on Audi's for a
living............just drive them!)
