Wires in door jamb...Help!

... I used butt splices on an '86 5kCSQPOS ... it created a huge aneurism in
the loom, but I wrapped it in polyethylene spiral wrap and called it good.
I don't know that I would count on it for a long term fix though ... if you
don't have the tools/experience to do it yourself find someone who does.
Unless you really don't plan on having the car that much longer ...
I recently repaired a rather nastily busted up harness on my BiL's '88 5k
Avant. What I did was to pull the door panel and loosen the tie downs for
the harnesses in the door. By doing this I was able to get just enough
extra wire to move the soldered and heat shrink tubing covered wires into
the kick panel. I then used the polyethylene wrap (from Radio Shack or
equiv) to try to balance out the bending over the entire length of the loom.
If you are careful in taking the thing apart you can reuse the Audi "tie
wraps" ...
As far as the wire colors go ... IME it doesn't really matter. There were
some cases where you needed to take note of the wire diameter as well as the
color. If you really want to know, you can always check the wiring diagram
in the Bentley.
