The reason the junkyards here in the US usually have a good supply of
type 44's can be answered in two words.  Automatic Transmission.   I have
been after some used 5 speed specific parts for my 1984 5KS for years
now,  have probably come across more than 100 5K parts cars....ALL
automatics, and most being parted because they needed a trannie or diff. 


On this note....does anyone have any links to the pre-type 44 5K's,
specifically I'm looking for a site with decent interior pics, I suspect
the interior for the 1984 type 44 was carried over from the previous
model for the first year.  (The window switches are in the console, not
on the door, along with other differences that make 1985 and up type 44's
incompatible  donor cars.)
