I actually loose 32mm in sidewall. 175/70 14" is my stock size, not the
195/65 14". Though I do run 185/70 14" snows for extra width and sidewall,
which I need for the frost heaves. I actually launched the car today on a
mtn pass because of the super stiff coilovers. I screwed up the wiring in
the trunk for the amplifier and my knee hit the keys turning the engine off
at 70mph. That was a bit odd until I realized the car was off and how it
had occurred. The tires take the brunt of all frost heaves and dips. I
suspect they may want to be replaced after this winter, then I can buy
softer coilover springs for the winter to help alleviate the oddball
handling.
Then again I passed a quattro last night on a fully snow packed road. I
was doing 60mph comfortably and they were doing 40mph. My Blizaaks makes
this FWD 80 a serious snow car, no joking! Four 4x4 SUV type vehicles plus
my sisters FWD 5k got stuck at Killington in the parking lot on Sunday. All
of them had snow tires except for my sister, all seasons. I was parked
next to all of these vehicles and I just backed out gently and I never
experienced any slippage, I was very surprised and very pleased. I drove in
3 hours of blizzard snow packed roads last night and I never lost control or
felt scared by the lack of quattro. I must have passed over 25 vehicles on
Rt4 and Rt7.
Cheers!
