Vanagon Syncro conversion NAC + Need parts.

I have a friend who has a 1990 Vanagon Syncro.  It is in nice shape but
needs a new motor.  Currently it has a 2.1 liter water cooled gasser.  He is
considering converting it to a turbo or at least a big displacement VW/Audi
block.  Anyone have any knowledge of who has done this?  I know there are a
few out there that have.  Also, anyone have a 2.1 or bigger displacement
blocks for sale?
