Further '88 5KSQ Accelerator Linkage Problem

The accelerator linkage in my '88 5KSQ seems to have about 1 inch play
before it engages. Driving the car is very difficult. It bucks. It is
either on hard or off. I noticed the little white plastic bushing on the
cruise control rod near the vacuum servo was broken. It was suggested that
this could be the problem.

1. OK. I'll fix that. But how does that affect the throttle when the
cruise control on not on? I can see where the vacuum servo would pull the
throttle rod if the plastic bushing were attached. But even when attached,
the plastic bushing allows the rod to push by it. It appears the plastic
bushing allows the cruise contol vacuum servo to pull the rod, but not push
it. I'm now wondering if there is more to this problem.

2. Where is the accelerator/throttle linkage in the Bentley?
