Alan:
Here is my most recent response to the lists discussion.
If you want to get the blasted stuff off, use lots of WD40 and popsicle
sticks. Anything else will chip the paint. You may have to end up with what
I did below.
Good Luck.

Subject: 80/90 Door Trims: DUMB!
I've read some comments recently about what purpose door base trims on
type 89's serve. IMHO they are just plain "dumb", look dirty all the time,
catch curbs and either lift off eventually from the dirt they collect
underneath or bend or warp. I finally got rid of mine and no water, no wind,
no fuss...no muss. The sill is deep enough and the door seals are tight
enough too. At the same time I got rid of the center door moldings that (if
you've lived in a hot climate like I had for a couple of years) warp and
lift right off the car right in front of your eyes, because the adhesive
heats up and weakens. I had replaced three of these buggers from the dealer
(because they won't come off anything else without trashing them) before I
smartened up. My 80 looks a little different (which I like) and it's a lot
easier to deal with.

im getting quite unfortunate recently, windscreen yesterday, side
moulding today... .gone. it would seem that the previous owner used some
silicone based sticky stuff (technical description), to refix the side
moulding, came out this evening to get some petrol and the bas***d thing was
gone, leaving a rectangle of rubber on the car. possibly aided by the
cellulose thinners i had used on the car recently to remove the pinstripes.
whats the deal with removing the mouldings???? i was thinking, use a heat
gun to soften the glue, then remove the leftovers with thinners again. any
experience much appreciated....
