I moved from RI to CA in 8/99. My '92 S4 wasn't ready to go (looonngg
story), so
I only had my truck ('98 3/4 ton Ram with the Cummins diesel) moved at first.

The company I used was A to Z Auto Shipping, at $900 for an open carrier.
These bozos
caused several hundred dollars worth damage to my fiberglass tonneau cover,
and since it
wasn't an OEM part, they wouldn't cover it.

I used Horseless Carriage to move my S4 this past November. Yes, it
wasn't cheap (just under
$2200). Their service was exemplary, however, and I will never use anyone
else. Your vehicle
is loaded into the enclosed trailer at the pick-up site, and *is not*
touched until it's unloaded
at delivery.

*A lot* of the bargain transporters will shuffle your vehicle around
between trucks at
various hubs along the route. My Ram was FILTHY on the inside when I got
it because they
obviously backed it off of truck A, and left the door open/window down
while they got truck B
ready. Who knows how many times they did this little swap.

 Caveat emptor...
