Hi all,

Last weekend I enlisted the help of a friend to repair the break-in damage
to my 80's driver's door. I'd obtained a new door handle (the cast-iron
surround part) which I'd painted body colour. According to ETKA, there are
two types of lock cylinder for the '87 80, so I got both on the premise
that I could return what didn't fit.

To replace the lock in a type 89, you need to remove the top of the door
(held on by four bolts) complete with the window and window mechanism.
Removing the door panel is not that easy in itself, strangely the window
frame is easier to remove.

It goes without saying that my car didn't have one of the two types of lock
cylinder I'd bought. There just had to be a third model, and it had to be
in my car.
Oh, and it had to be a Sunday afternoon with the dealership closed and it
had to start raining just when we had the complete door in pieces.

Another week of entering my car by the passenger door.
At least I now have the correct part, so in theory this should all be easy...
