I usually end up taking both guide pins out anyways to I can clean and lube
them up. Though the reason I take the top one out to remove the pads before
I take the carrier off is because it's wicked easy to pull the caliper off
without worry about that ridge. If you pull the whole carrier and caliper
off that ridge can wreak havoc on yanking it. Also it's a lot easier to
install new pads this way than trying to seat them in the caliper with it
totally bolted to the carrier, BTDT and the first method works best, also
easier to lube all those contact points.
What pictures?!
