dash display / dash dimmer dial

Just acquired a '93 urS4. Black on Black. Nice to have an appropriate stable
mate for my better half '93 100CSQ Avant.

Anyway, it has the dreaded flakey dash display problem where the test /
radio display is filled with horizontal lines, etc.

My brief research suggests instrument panel removal and cleaning contacts,
etc. Is this still the current method to address this item? Also, I've
noticed that the dash dimmer is a little flakey. There seems to be a
reletively narrow band of brightness as compared to my Avant.

Would you suspect that one fix may address both problems?
