Hmm, interesting... Bentley shows that each switch in the driver's door
is connected to ground (directly) and to +12V (switched by the window
control unit). The same pin that supplies power to the switch's light
powers the window.
Both the switch at the driver's door and the one at the window are
symmetric regarding up and down. So that rules out a simple power
problem. I'd say there's a good chance that both the switches have high
resistance for "up" when trying to carry that much current, so the
window won't go up. (At least that's what happens to me sometimes.)

Well, it does have to be connected, and it does have to be functional in
the default position, but the "up" and "down" portions don't matter.
> Is there a proven method of raising the window somehow?
Yes--at the switch connector, jumper pin 5 (GND) to 2 (one motor pin)
and pin 4 (+12V) to pin 1 (the other motor pin). There are five pins
total, jumpered something like this:
3 4 5
/ /
/ /
1 2
If that drives the window the wrong way, flip it over to 3-1 and 4-2.
Perhaps an easier method is swapping in a known-good switch. Hopefully
you have at least one in the car! Then clean/replace the switches.
